Co-Founder & Board Member JOHN AVELLUTO was born in Gravesend, Brooklyn and attended Brooklyn College, acquiring a BA in English and subsequently an MFA in Visual Art. Since then he has gone on to exhibit his work both nationally and abroad while remaining active as a conduit for arts in the public sphere. John is a founder (’09) of the Bay Ridge 5th Ave Storefront Art Walk (SAW) and The Bay Ridge Poets Society (’13), both of which are testament to his interest in the multifaceted relationships between Art and community. In 2014 John was named one of the 100 Most Influential People in Brooklyn Culture by Brooklyn Magazine. In the same year John was lauded by the online forum for arts and culture Hyperallergic magazine for his solo exhibition, Disintegrator, at Studio 10 in Bushwick, Brooklyn. He is the co-owner and operator of The Owls Head Wine Bar in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn where he lives and works with his wife and two daughters.
Co-Founder & Board Member HEATHER HAMILTON owns and manages Long’s Wines & Liquors in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn named “Best Liquor Store in Brooklyn” by L Magazine. Through Long’s, Heather seeks to promote wine education, as well as local New York vintners and distillers. She has completed the American Sommelier Association Viticulture & Vinification sommelier certification course. She also serves on the Board of the Metropolitan Package Store Association and was named retailer of the year in 2014 by Brown-Forman. Heather also serves on the board of the Bay Ridge 5th Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) and the North Flatbush BID in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Prior to running Long’s, Heather spent a decade as a Broadway and national touring manager and producer on many noteworthy companies such as the Sam Mendes/Rob Marshall production of Cabaret, Jekyll & Hyde, Seussical the Musical, David Henry Hwang’s Golden Child, and Kathleen Turner’s one woman show Tallulah.
Board Member CHANDRA HIRA is a freelance Graphic Designer/Art Director with almost 20 yrs of experience in marketing design. A native of Bay Ridge (her family settled there in the early 1900s), she is very active in the community, currently serving on the board of Bay Ridge Cares, an organization dedicated to helping local families in need. In the past, she has served on the Bay Ridge Community Council and also the Bay Ridge Festival of the Arts executive board. She holds a M.A. in Graphic Communications Management and Technology from New York University, a Certificate in Marketing/Advertising from New York University and a B.A. in Communication Design from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.
Board Member CHRIS McCREIGHT was born in Chicago and attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, where he received a BA in Political Science. Since moving to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn almost ten years ago, he’s been active in local politics, working on campaigns and for elected officials. Recently, he was the campaign manager for Sal Albanese, who represented Bay Ridge on the City Council for 25 years and was a candidate for Mayor of New York City in 2013. He is currently the Communications Director for Assemblyman and Chair of the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus Karim Camara.
Executive Administrator DANIELLE BULLOCK is a visual artist, writer and educator. Brooklyn-born and raised, she received her BFA in Photography at Parsons School of Design and her MFA in Writing at Brooklyn College. Over the last 15 years, she has been employed as a teaching artist at the Whitney and Guggenheim Museums, the Boys Club of NY, the Brooklyn Public Library, as well as in New York City public schools. She has just completed a year-long internship for teaching artists with the Community Word Project in Manhattan. She is a frequent performer at various local poetry readings and is also a co-organizer of the Empty Bowls Bay Ridge project.
