We are happy to announce that the 5th Ave Bay Ridge Storefront Art Walk is now accepting applications to its fourth annual event. Artists will work with at least one store to create work that has a clear visual and conceptual connection to its surroundings. Artists will be given a period of time between acceptance of their project and its installation to create a new work. Participants will have a choice of different storefronts along 5th Avenue, offering the diverse Bay Ridge community a unique opportunity for engagement and dialogue with the Visual Arts. The project goal is to create an event that is unique in how temporary art is conceived and shown in the public. This is a unique opportunity to explore untapped dialogue between commerce, art and community in relation to temporary work.
Committed artists will be expected to engage and collaborate with their partnered storefront over the interim of their acceptance and enjoy the dynamism that this provides to their practice. A $300 stipend for materials will be provided. With this in mind, applicants must submit:
- A letter of intent/cover letter which states your desire to be part of this project’s public and site specific forum.
- 5 jpeg images of work. Please keep file size of each image to 1 MB or less. (Public works PREFERRED but NOT NECESSARY).
- Artist relevant CV
Submit your application to [email protected] by Midnight on Sunday, February 10. Accepted applicants will be notified during the last week of February.
Work is expected to be installed by Wednesday May 15th. The SAW will remain on view through the 21st of June. Artists are expected to install and deinstall independently.
